The new Sage Handbook of Coaching (2017) offers an excellent overview of current issues and practices, as well as mapping out where the discipline is going. The Handbook is organized into six thematic sections:
Part One: Positioning Coaching as a Discipline
Part Two: Coaching as a Process
Part Three: Common Issues in Coaching
Part Four: Coaching in Contexts
Part Five: Researching Coaching
Part Six: Development of Coaches
(From the publishers, Sage Publications, Ltd).
Many of the chapters are relevant to health coaching research and practice; however, one chapter is dedicated specifically to Coaching in Healthcare, authored by Ruth Wolever, Margaret Moore and Meg Jordan. It provides a comprehensive overview of the health coaching area, covering the place of health coaching in the current healthcare context. Along with the coaching of patients, providers and leaders, it gives examples of current research in health coaching.
