Summary: In this episode of Coaching Revealed, Miriam Meima and Lisa Dempsey are interviewed by Pamela Larde, Director of Education at the Institute of Coaching. The three discuss finding one’s ideal clients, developing a unique value proposition as a coach, and determining your pricing. As experienced coaches Miriam and Lisa, both found themselves gravitating towards the coaching profession with a desire to have intentional impact on the lives of their clients. Lisa found herself burnt out in her career, and transitioned into coaching to help create healthier environments in the leadership space. While Miriam, with her background in consulting and culture work with large organizations, combines knowledge of psychology and business with her executive coaching clients. In terms of finding one’s ideal clients, both coaches advise discovering your own authentic stance rather than forcing a niche based on market needs. Within the earlier stages of one’s career, working with a range of clients can help you discover what fits or doesn’t fit for you personally. Miriam and Lisa reflect with Pamela on how developing one’s genuine passions and authenticity helps attract the clients that resonate with your skills. For pricing, Lisa and Miriam note that your pricing can and should be based on the value provided to the clients versus what number of hours you spend with them. Understanding client needs and budget also impacts coaching prices, with conversations with potential clients helping shape engagement duration, contract pricing, and more. Overall, Lisa and Miriam highlight in their conversation with Pamela the power of authenticity within your coaching practice, not only as a tool for knowing yourself, but in attracting a clientele and community that empowers you as a coach.
