Janice Manzi Sabatine, PhD, PCC, is President of Avanti Strategies, LLC, a firm specializing in executive, leadership, and career coaching for academic physicians and scientists. She is a certified executive coach through the Pennsylvania State University Smeal College of Business and earned a BS in chemistry from the University of Notre Dame and a PhD in biochemistry from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Recognizing the need among her technically trained peers for stronger leadership and interpersonal skills, Janice trained as an executive coach. In this role, Janice has helped numerous academic, scientific, and healthcare professionals become stronger, more effective leaders. A researcher by training, Janice relies on evidence-based methodologies to support her coaching and coach training activities. She is a recipient of an Institute of Coaching research grant to study the impact of a coaching-based career course supplemented with external coaching entitled “The Impact of Developmental Coaching on Career Adaptability Capacity and Moderators of Sustained Career Development among Graduate Students”. In addition to editing the coaching reference book, Professional Coaching: Principles and Practice, Janice is co-director of training in the Professional Coach Certification Program in the Palumbo Donahue School of Business at Duquesne University and is a Past President of the Pittsburgh chapter of the International Coach Federation.
