April is not only the beginning of spring in the northern hemisphere, this year we spring forward together with the intense learning, inspiration, and connection of our virtual Coaching in Leadership & Healthcare Conference for three half-days, April 27-29.
Come join us for our IOC peak experience of 2023, which will spring all of us forward with new energy and momentum.
Spring into Renewal with IOC
Along with our conference, spring brings with it the joy of new growth and the vibrant beauty served up by the animal and plant kingdoms. The opportunity for renewal is upon us. While mindfulness experts teach us to meet each moment as a fresh, new moment, for everyone, including coaches, this is no small achievement, even in springtime.
We have learned from Lisa Feldman Barrett’s constructivist theory of emotions that the brain’s focus is not on meeting each moment anew. The brain prepares us for each moment by calculating our resources and predicting the internal and external demands on those resources. These predictions are based on our memories – our past experiences, not the present moment. Then the brain communicates those predictions to our conscious awareness through our emotions and thoughts.
We have also learned from mindfulness experts how to detach from and set aside the brain’s automatic activity. Then we can directly experience a moment, without the distortions of our brains’ predictions and messages.
Let us all use the inspiration of spring to remind us to meet, greet, and experience each moment without the interference of our well-intentioned brains. Every moment, especially with IOC, really is a new moment!
Our April webinars include Harvard Business Publishing author Thomas Wedell-Wedellsborg asking “ what’s your problem ,” and Lisa Orbe-Austin who keeps us moving toward greatness and overcome what our brain does to stop us in our tracks ( imposter syndrome ). Stanford professor Jeremy Utley will discuss his concept called “ IdeaFlow ,” which requires clean and deep engagement with the present moment.
It's time to put Spring in our Steps! See you at 10 am ET on April 27!
